Script to Screen Challenge 2009

Screenwriters’ Workshop seeks short screenplay entries over the coming months for the 2009 Script to Screen Challenge. Script to Screen gives screenwriters the opportunity to write with production values in mind and have the winning script shot by a Twin Cities production company with a budget of $2000.

There will be four contest months with each month requiring a different theme. Writers are encouraged to enter a new script in all four months. The due date is the 3rd of each month. THE DEADLINE FOR APRIL HAS BEEN EXTENDED TO APRIL 17th.

April 2009: Theme is REBIRTH – Now due on April 17th
May 2009: Theme is THE GARDEN – Due date May 3rd
June 2009: Theme is CELEBRATION – Due date June 3rd
July 2009: Theme is INDEPENDENCE – Due date July 3rd

Script to Screen Guidelines:

Entrants must be current Screenwriters Workshop dues-paying members.
Script must not be more than 10 pages in length.
Script must be in standard screenplay format for a spec or a shooting script.
Script must not use more than 2 settings. (A room in a building is a setting, not the building itself.)
Script must not use more than 5 speaking characters.
Script must present a complete storyline in any genre the writer chooses.
Script must be submitted in .pdf format only.
Script must not contain the writer’s name-title of the script only.
Each individual script may be entered in only month. You can and are encouraged to enter a new script in each month.
Judging Process:

Scripts will be considered in 4 separate judging cycles during April, May, June and July.
Each month will have different theme.
Independent artists from the MN community will serve as judges.
Two (2) finalists per month will be selected and announced by the end of each month for a total of eight (8) finalists.
One (1) of the eight (8) monthly finalists’ screenplays will be selected as the overall winning script and this script will be filmed in August 2009 by a MN production company with a budge of $2000.
Judges’ monthly and overall decisions are final.
The film produced from the winning script will be shown at SWW Fall Annual Meeting.
The 8 monthly finalists’ screenplays will be posted on-line for reading and an Readers’ Choice vote will be tallied.

Put title of script as the subject line and include your name, if SWW member, and script title in the body of the email. Attach script as a .pdf file and do NOT put your name anywhere on the title page or in the script.
